Emerging Technology: Threat or Opportunity?

The increasingly competitive environment in internet applications has reduced the “time to market” to the point where even industry observers find it hard to keep up. Assessing the impact of new technologies is challenging, and responding to the opportunity or threat presented is not an area of strength for governments. Yet, these emerging “off the shelf” technologies have the potential to significantly change the way police operations are conducted, some at no additional cost.
Bob Hayes will demonstrate a suite of technologies which could transform the way police operations are planned, conducted and debriefed.  Bob will then discuss the opportunities that exist for the police service to better engage with industry to assess the impact of emerging technologies.

Bob Hayes, UK Director, The Microsoft Institute for Advanced Technology in Governments

Target Audience: Command level police officers & those concerned with operational effectiveness and best value in policing.

Intelligence Led Policing and Data Quality

Imagine a situation where you know you have gathered information in your system but can’t find it. Sound familiar? This is the issue with many police applications available today, which by their very nature of a silo approach or poor integration capabilities, prevent good quality intelligence led policing. What is required is the implementation of an Intelligence and Crime system that is capable of:
• capturing data in a consistent way,
• linking that data to the correct golden entities,
• allowing data to be searched regardless of where it is entered
• exposing data via standard interfaces to best of breed 3rd party products
• running on a standard platform allowing complete scalability across the enterprise as the customer requires
Unisys along with Microsoft has developed a CIS platform. The most advanced ACPO compliant, Web based and entity centric application to enable true Intelligence-led policing.
